Greek, Pt. 1 — Never too late
My Greek professor published a little flier with great quotes and anecdotes to encourage us in our studies. These little encouragements have stayed with me, and they still help fourteen years later. Here are few from the first issue.
“Julia Howard Ward was 70 when she began to study Greek, and in two years’ time, she was able to read Sophocles in Greek with great enjoyment. John Knox studied Greek when he was over 50″. — Doremus Hayes
“Let Greek, without fail, share some part of every day…It is Greek that must distinguish you in the learned world — Latin alone will not”. — Lord Chesterfield
“A gentleman is one who knows Greek”. — Lionel Johnson
“He is no theologian who is not first a grammarian”. — A.M. Fairbairn
