It’s a great quote, but in the wrong hands, it could be destructive. “That which did not always exist” could, of course, also refer to creation, which will lead us again to the ever-present American evangelical quasi-Gnosticism.

Point taken. I suppose it could be qualified by the coming radical change in the order of things, whatever the nature of that will be, allowing for what will be lost and what will continue. Or, it could imply that more will actually last than the Gnostics would admit. Gregory could sound like someone who holds to an eternal universe position too if looked at from the other side. I think, though, that he knew what he was saying.
